Oklahoma City Council adds discrimination protection for sexual orientation

By Dakoda Smith, Copy Editor

A measure passed today to extend employment discrimination protection to gay workers in the metro by a 7-2 vote.

The inclusion was proposed by Ward 2 Oklahoma City Councilman Ed Shadid, who compared employee discrimination against gay people to Adolf Hitler singling out groups for discrimination in Nazi Germany.

Ward 4 Councilman Pete White also advocated for the bill, claiming the measure promoted fairness.
