President Barack Obama, who has shown opposition for the Defense of Marriage Act in the past, ordered the Justice Department to take away the act’s constitutionality Wednesday.
The act defended the idea of marriage being between one man and one woman, therefore barring same-sex couples from being married.
Obama stated that the act failed to meet standards which would allow it to uphold its constitutionality.
