Digital music retailers to improve quality of downloads

Apple and other digital music retailers are working out deals with record labels to improve the overall quality of the music they sell.

Such improvements could replace music that is compressed to 16-bit quality with its original 24-bit high-fidelity audio format.

For many digital music retailers, record labels compress their music files to decrease file sizes in order to offer faster downloads.
