Palins apply to trademark their names

Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska, and her daughter, Bristol Palin, filed applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark their own names.

The trademarks would help to protect their “brands” from people who would potentially use their names for some sort of profit.
