Student senators passed four bills and tabled one bill at their Nov. 9 meeting. Two of the bills were presented by emergency.
Senators passed Senate Bill 020 by unanimous consent. The bill, co-authored by Sen. Ciera Terry (theater) and Sen. Erica Olavarria (junior-at-large), will allot $225 to Out of the Box Productions for technical costs.
Bills 021, 022 and 023 were passed as amended by unanimous consent.
Senate Bill 021 will fund about $590 to SPECTRUM for World Aids Day. Sen. Sarah Johnson (junior-at-large) wrote the bill for the event to be hosted Dec. 1. Sen. Ciera Terry (theater) proposed an amendment to cut the funding by $250, but it failed.
Emergency Senate Bill 022 will allocate about $1,500 to Indian Student Association for their “New India” event. The event will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Sen. Edwards Ayo-Odugbesan (international) proposed the amendment to cut funding by about $1,000. The original bill was written by Sen. John Davis (law/graduate-at-large). It would have funded about $2,500 to ISA.
Emergency Senate Bill 023 funded about $100 to SPECTRUM for their Alter Ego Fashion Show. The event will be at 8 p.m. Saturday. Sen. Chris Macella (math/sciences) proposed the amendment to cut funding in half. Sen. Johnson wrote the original bill, which would have funded about $200 for the event.
Senate Bill 019 was tabled indefinitely as motioned by Sen. Lena Khader (humanities). Khader and Sen. Sarah Cook (Greek/president pro tempore) authored the legislation. The bill would have funded $302 to Asian American Student Association to attend the Asian Pacific American Empowerment Conference.
Sen. Neil Cooley (sophomore-at-large) and Sen. Matt Mahon (athletic) were not present at the meeting.
There is about $3,000 left in Student Senate’s rolling appropriations.
