Senior golfer paces OCU through first day of fall classic

FORT WORTH – Senior golfer Laura Jones led OCU with a 75-76–151 through 36 holes of the North Texas Fall Classic on Sept. 13 at the Golf Club at Champions Circle.

The five-time NAIA women’s golf champion Stars shot 313-310–623 to hold eighth place in a field featuring 10 NCAA Division I teams.

Jones tied for 13th place at 11 strokes off the pace set by Susannah Grunden  of Bowling Green.

Senior golfer Paige Martin fired 77-76–153, while Sophomore golfer Mary Larsh turned in an 82-77–159 for OCU. Freshman golfer Tanya Tibshraeny had an 81-81–162, and Sophomore golfer Madison Haley carded 80-85–165 for the Stars.

The competitors faced 89-degree temperatures with a 10-mph wind on the par-72, 6,102-yard course.

The final round of the tournament begins 8 a.m. Sept. 14 in Fort Worth.
